Sending EUR from Greece to the Philippines is straightforward in 2026 if you skip the banks. Digital providers like Wise and Remitly deliver to BDO, BPI, GCash, and cash pickup points within minutes to one day, with 3-8% better rates than Greek banks. To send EUR 1,000 from Greece, expect fees of just €4-7 on Wise versus €40+ hidden in bank margins.
In Philippines, recipients can access funds directly at BDO Unibank, the country's largest financial institution. By using Revolut instead of a traditional bank wire, your recipient gets approximately 3,000 PHP more on a $1,000 transfer — because digital providers pass the real exchange rate directly. Worth knowing about the local currency: the Philippine ₱1,000 note depicts Apolinario Mabini and features the Banaue Rice Terraces, carved by hand 2,000 years ago.
Our verdict: Use Wise for transparent low-cost EUR to PHP transfers, or Remitly Express when speed matters more than a few cents on the rate.
The Greece to Philippines corridor is small but steady. Most senders are Filipino nurses, caregivers, and seafarers working in Athens, Thessaloniki, and Greek shipping hubs — alongside Greek expats with Filipino partners or staff. The euro itself is a remittance heavyweight: the Eurozone's 450+ million residents and millions of cross-border workers make it one of the world's top send currencies, with major diaspora flows to Asia, Africa, and the Americas. Yet Greek banks still treat EUR to PHP like an exotic route. They tack on SWIFT fees of €25-40, hide a 3-5% margin in the exchange rate, and take 2-4 business days. Digital providers crush them on every metric.
Two costs matter: the upfront fee and the exchange rate markup. Banks love hiding the markup because it looks "free." Don't fall for it. A Piraeus Bank transfer might show a €15 fee but bake in another €40 through a worse rate on a €1,000 send. Digital players flip this. Wise charges a transparent fee — usually €4-7 on €1,000 — and uses the real mid-market rate. Remitly often waives the fee on first transfers entirely. The rule: always compare the PHP amount your recipient actually gets, not the fee number on screen.
Wise wins on transparency and consistency — you'll typically save 3-5% versus a Greek bank, sometimes 8% on larger amounts. Remitly is often cheaper on the first transfer thanks to promo rates and zero fees, then settles into competitive territory. WorldRemit is strong for cash pickup at Cebuana Lhuillier and M Lhuillier branches. Revolut works if you already hold a Revolut EUR balance and send on weekdays, but weekend markups sting. Skrill and Xoom round out the options but rarely beat Wise on the round trip.
Speed varies wildly by provider and payment method. Card-funded transfers on Remitly Express land in minutes — useful for emergencies, hospital bills, or family deadlines. Wise typically clears in a few hours to one business day when funded by SEPA bank transfer. Bank-to-bank SWIFT from Alpha Bank or Eurobank? Two to four business days, sometimes longer. If you don't need the speed, Remitly Economy or a standard Wise transfer saves you real money — use Express only when it actually matters.
The Philippines is the world's 4th largest remittance recipient — inflows exceeded $36 billion in 2023, representing nearly 9% of GDP, so the receiving infrastructure is exceptional. The two largest receiving banks are BDO Unibank and Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), and virtually every digital provider can deliver directly to accounts at either. Beyond banks, you can push to GCash and Maya mobile wallets — increasingly the default for younger recipients — or arrange cash pickup at Cebuana Lhuillier, M Lhuillier, Palawan Pawnshop, and SM Malls. Wallets and bank deposits are usually free for the recipient; cash pickup sometimes carries a small claim fee.
Good news for senders and recipients alike: the Philippines imposes no tax on incoming remittances — a key reason OFW (Overseas Filipino Workers) remittances topped $36 billion in 2023. Your recipient gets the full PHP amount delivered. On the Greek side, transfers under €10,000 trigger no reporting beyond standard KYC, though all licensed providers must verify your identity under EU anti-money-laundering rules. Keep transfer confirmations for your records, especially if you send regularly or in larger amounts — Greek tax authorities can ask about outgoing funds during audits.
EUR/PHP moves on both ECB policy and Philippine peso sentiment. Set rate alerts on Wise or Revolut and watch for spikes above 62-63 PHP per EUR. Avoid weekends — providers pad their rates when interbank markets close. For amounts over €5,000, ask Wise about their large-amount discounts, which kick in around €20,000 and shave the fee percentage further. Sending €500 or less? The flat fee dominates, so a one-time slightly larger transfer beats two small ones nearly every time.
