Sending money from Czech Republic to Paraguay doesn't have to mean losing 5% to your bank. Digital providers like Wise, Remitly, Revolut, and WorldRemit offer the real exchange rate, faster delivery, and direct deposits to major Paraguayan banks. Here's how to pick the right one for your transfer.
In Paraguay, recipients can access funds directly at Banco Continental, the country's largest financial institution. By using Wise instead of a traditional bank wire, your recipient gets approximately 12,300 PYG more on a $1,000 transfer — because digital providers pass the real exchange rate directly. Worth knowing about the local currency: the ₲100,000 guaraní note features Itaipu Dam — co-owned by Paraguay and Brazil and once the world's largest hydroelectric plant.
Our verdict: For most CZK to PYG transfers, fund a Wise or Remitly transfer by SEPA bank debit on a weekday and send directly to a BBVA Paraguay or Banco Continental account.
The CZK to PYG corridor is small but growing. Most senders are Czech expats supporting family in Asunción, Czech businesses paying contractors, or travelers funding stays in South America. Czech banks still route these payments through SWIFT, which means two or three intermediary fees and an exchange rate that bleeds 4–6% before the recipient sees a koruna's worth. Digital providers skip the SWIFT chain entirely. The result: more guaraní in Paraguay, faster delivery, and a fee you can actually see before you hit send.
There are two costs on any CZK to PYG transfer, and only one of them is honest. The flat fee is the obvious one — usually between 0 CZK and 150 CZK depending on the provider and payment method. The hidden cost is the exchange rate markup, where banks quietly add 3–6% to the mid-market rate. Send 25,000 CZK through a Czech bank and you might "pay" only 250 CZK in stated fees, but lose another 1,200 CZK in the rate. Always compare the final PYG amount the recipient receives, not the headline fee.
Wise leads on transparency — it uses the real mid-market rate and charges a clean percentage upfront, typically 0.5–1% for CZK to PYG. Remitly tends to win on first-transfer promotions and is sharper for amounts under 30,000 CZK. Revolut is unbeatable if both sender and an intermediary FX layer sit inside the app, though weekend markups apply. WorldRemit competes well on cash pickup options. Versus a Czech bank quoting you 3–8% in disguised spread, any of these four will put 3–8% more guaraní in the recipient's pocket. For most senders, Wise wins on predictability; Remitly wins on small amounts and speed promos.
Speed depends entirely on how you pay. Card-funded transfers via Wise or Remitly often land in 1–2 hours, sometimes in minutes if the recipient's bank supports instant credit. SEPA bank transfers from your Czech account take 1–2 business days to clear at the provider, then another day to settle in Paraguay — call it 2–3 business days total. Cash pickup at agent locations in Asunción or Ciudad del Este is usually ready within 30 minutes. Use the fast option for emergencies; use the economy SEPA route when you want the absolute cheapest rate and can wait.
Remittances play an important role in Paraguay's economy, and the local banking system is built to absorb international transfers efficiently. The two largest receiving banks in Paraguay are BBVA Paraguay and Banco Continental, and most digital providers can deliver directly to accounts at these banks. Beyond bank deposits, you can send to mobile wallets like Tigo Money and Personal Pay, which dominate rural and unbanked areas, or arrange cash pickup at thousands of agent locations countrywide. For larger amounts going to a family member's everyday account, a direct deposit to BBVA Paraguay or Banco Continental is the cleanest path.
Standard banking regulations apply for sending from Czech Republic to Paraguay. On the Czech side, transfers above 15,000 EUR equivalent trigger AML reporting under EU rules, and you'll need to verify your identity with any licensed provider. Paraguay does not tax personal remittances received from abroad, though recipients moving large sums may need to document the source. For typical family support amounts, there's no tax friction on either end — just the standard KYC checks when you set up your provider account.
CZK/PYG isn't directly quoted on most markets — your provider crosses CZK to USD or EUR, then into PYG. That means timing matters less than amount. Sending larger amounts (above 50,000 CZK) usually unlocks lower percentage fees on Wise and better promotional rates on Remitly. Set up rate alerts on Wise or Revolut to catch favorable CZK/EUR moves, and avoid sending on weekends when Revolut and some banks apply weekend FX surcharges. For recurring support payments, set up a scheduled transfer on a weekday — boring, but consistently cheaper.
